The construction of the bi-directional tunnel at Km 83 on NH-244 represents a transformative leap in enhancing regional connectivity. This project features a 495-meter-long tunnel, coupled with a 664-meter approach road and a 110-meter major bridge extending from Km 82.675 to Km 82.925. The innovative design will significantly improve travel efficiency, reducing the journey time from 2.6 minutes to 1.88 minutes, achieving a reduction of 0.72 minutes. With an overall width of 11 meters, including both paved and earthen sections, this bi-directional tunnel is set to redefine the travel experience along the Khellani-Kishtwar corridor.

Strategically positioned along NH-244, this project is a cornerstone of infrastructure development in the Kishtwar District. The bi-directional tunnel, the first of its kind in the district, aims to reduce accident-prone areas and offer an alternate route to the Kashmir Valley. Beyond enhancing connectivity to local villages and towns, the project is poised to address socio-economic imbalances by cutting down travel times and boosting regional development. By integrating modern engineering with local needs, this endeavour not only facilitates smoother transportation but also fosters economic growth and improved safety in the region.
