About Us

National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), is a Schedule ‘A’ Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India. The company was incorporated on the 18th of July, 2014, under the Companies Act, 2013. As a wholly-owned Government entity, NHIDCL, stands tall as a symbol of modern India’s infrastructural renaissance, dedicated to redefining connectivity across some of the nation’s most challenging and strategic regions.

Tasked with the monumental responsibility of developing and maintaining National Highways and other key infrastructure assets, NHIDCL’s domain extends across the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the state of Uttarakhand, and the entire North Eastern Region (NER). Its ambit includes tunnels, logistics hubs, inter-state and international road linkages, and advanced mobility facilities - all serving as the arteries of India’s economic and geopolitical aspirations.

As the executing arm of the Government of India’s vision to realize the “Act East Policy,” NHIDCL plays a pivotal role as the nodal agency in the North Eastern region. The company is actively engaged in providing seamless regional integration, enhancing border area connectivity and paving the way for the development of border roads, economic corridors and feeder routes for inland waterways under the ambitious Bharatmala Pariyojana (BMP).

The enhanced connectivity envisaged through these efforts is far-reaching. It strengthens cross-border trade and commerce, fortifies national security and lays the foundation for a more economically integrated South and Southeast Asia. More importantly, it brings inclusive development to remote and underdeveloped regions, knitting them into the national fabric with renewed vigour and opportunity.

As of 31.03.2025, NHIDCL has been entrusted with a total road length of 8,346 km. A total of 376 projects covering 7,528 km have been sanctioned with a total project cost of ₹1,67,214 Cr. Out of these, 164 projects covering 3,086 km at a cost of ₹49,565 Cr have been completed.

To address the unique challenges posed by varied and often inhospitable terrains, NHIDCL has forged strategic partnerships with premier institutions including the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd (KRCL). These collaborations aim to nurture a specialized talent pool equipped to navigate the technical, logistical and environmental complexities inherent to infrastructure development in such regions.

Looking beyond roads, NHIDCL is evolving into a versatile infrastructure development agency with a mandate that could extend to urban transport and urban infrastructure projects. The company also envisions fostering international cooperation by sharing technical expertise and collaborating with foreign governments, multilateral institutions and global development agencies.

A crown jewel of its forward-looking vision is the creation of the North Eastern India’s first High-Speed Corridor - a transformative venture poised to revolutionize regional mobility. As of 31.03.2025, The Total Project Length of all the High-speed Corridors projects of NHIDCL is 334 Km at an estimated cost of ₹33,434 Cr. By enhancing the efficiency of international trade routes within the framework of the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC), this initiative promises not just smoother transportation, but a catalytic push to economic growth and diplomatic synergy. The company’s landmark projects are being supported through funding from global institutions such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

In essence, NHIDCL is not just building roads - it is laying the foundation for a stronger, more connected and more prosperous India.
