Embarking on a transformative journey, the ongoing Construction and Upgradation project on NH-244 is set to redefine the Chenani-Sudhmahadev-Goha Khellani-Kishtwar-Vailoo-Donipawa-Ashajipora corridor. Spanning 9.12 km from Design Km 67.805 (end of the Km 83 tunnel) to Km 80.675 (start of the Kishtwar Bypass), this initiative is designed to enhance the existing road to a 2-lane paved shoulder specification. With a focus on improving efficiency, the project will cut travel time from 18 minutes to a mere 10 minutes, achieving a notable reduction of 8 minutes. The highway’s 10-meter-wide carriageway will facilitate smoother and safer transit for commuters, offering a significant upgrade from the previous road conditions.

This project is poised to be a game-changer for the Kishtwar district, delivering substantial benefits in transport connectivity and regional development. By upgrading to a 2-lane paved shoulder specification, the highway will not only streamline travel but also reduce vehicle operating costs, making journeys more efficient. The improved infrastructure is expected to promote economic growth and bolster tourism in the area, contributing to social and economic advancements. The project's scope includes the construction of a high-standard highway with six major new bridges (MNBs), ensuring a robust and enduring road network that supports both local and regional transportation needs.
