The ongoing Maintenance and Repair (M&R) project on the Chatroo-Singpora road is dedicated to restoring and preserving essential infrastructure in Jammu & Kashmir. This initiative involves comprehensive maintenance activities along an 8.7 km stretch from Km 0.00 (Chatroo) to Km 19.600 (Singpora). Key tasks include clearing landslides and snow, constructing retaining and breast walls, and laying White Bituminous Macadam (WBM-III), Bituminous Macadam (BM), and Bituminous Concrete (BC). Launched on September 17, 2022, this project focuses on ensuring the road remains functional and secure until the Singpora Vailoo tunnel project progresses.

While this M&R project does not aim to reduce travel time or upgrade road specifications, it is crucial for maintaining the road’s safety and usability. By addressing immediate needs such as landslide clearance and road surface restoration, the project ensures that the Chatroo-Singpora link remains operational and safe for current traffic. This maintenance work is essential for preserving the integrity of the road and preparing it for future developments. Although no enhancements are planned, the project’s efforts to uphold road quality contribute significantly to the region’s connectivity and the overall functionality of the transportation network.
