The ongoing upgradation of the Jammu-Akhnoor Road section from Khati Chowk to Hanuman Chowk is a crucial project aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and reducing traffic congestion. This 3.76-kilometer stretch of NH-144A is being transformed from an existing 2-lane road to a 4-lane highway with paved shoulders, ensuring a safer and more efficient route for travelers. The project includes the construction of a significant 450.80-meter-long bridge over the Chenab River, along with additional infrastructure such as two minor bridges, 21 culverts, and underpasses. Once completed, this project will dramatically reduce travel time from 25 minutes to just 10 minutes, offering a 15-minute saving that will ease the daily commute for thousands.

Strategically located, this project is not just about improving road conditions; it's about fostering development in the Jammu region. With a total project cost of Rs. 198.28 crores, the upgraded highway will play a pivotal role in reducing traffic congestion and accidents, contributing to the overall safety and well-being of commuters. The broader width and enhanced structural features of the highway are designed to accommodate future traffic growth, making this project a long-term investment in the region’s infrastructure. By connecting key areas more effectively, NHIDCL is not only improving travel efficiency but also laying the groundwork for continued economic and social development in Jammu and its surrounding areas.
