The Goha-Khellani section of NH-244 (Package II) is undergoing significant up-gradation to enhance regional connectivity and safety in Jammu & Kashmir. This project covers an 8.73 km stretch, from Km 20.300 to Km 29.030. The project is being developed under the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) mode, and the main objective is to improve the existing infrastructure by constructing a two-lane highway with paved shoulders, bridges, culverts, and slope protection works. This strategically important project is designed to reduce accident-prone areas and provide an alternative connectivity route to the Kashmir Valley, thereby reducing travel time and improving access to local villages and towns. The overall width of the highway will be 11 meters, including a 10-meter paved roadway and a 1-meter earthen shoulder.
One of the unique technical features of this project is the construction of the first Vehicular Under Pass (VUP) in Doda District, a significant milestone in improving road safety and accessibility in the region. This project, once completed, will play a vital role in addressing the socio-economic imbalance in the area by enhancing connectivity, reducing travel time, and providing a safer and more reliable route to important locations within Jammu & Kashmir.
