Corridors: Jammu-Akhnoor Project status: Ongoing
NHIDCL's ambitious upgradation of the Jammu-Akhnoor Road section of NH-144A, from Ganesh Vihar to Khati Chowk, marks a significant leap forward in regional infrastructure development. Spanning over 20 kilometers, this project aims to transform the daily commute by expanding the existing road into a four-lane highway with paved shoulders. This critical upgrade involves the construction of a major bridge, 19 minor bridges, and 76 culverts, ensuring that the corridor is equipped to handle increased traffic flow and enhance connectivity. Once completed, the project is set to reduce travel time from 60 minutes to just 25 minutes, a 35-minute reduction that will greatly benefit commuters by minimizing congestion and improving road safety.
This project is not just about easing travel; it’s about strategic development that addresses the growing needs of the region. With a total project cost of Rs. 435.82 crores, the enhanced highway will serve as a vital link, reducing traffic congestion and the risk of accidents. The broad scope of the project, including the widening of the highway and the addition of necessary structural supports, reflects NHIDCL's commitment to delivering infrastructure that not only meets current demands but also anticipates future growth. This initiative underscores the strategic importance of the Jammu-Akhnoor corridor, making it a safer, faster, and more efficient route for the thousands who travel it daily.
