The ongoing Construction of the Kishtwar Bypass is a pivotal infrastructure upgrade on NH-244, extending 16.75 km from Design Km 80.675 (Dulhasti) to Km 95.550 (Bandarkoot), with an additional link road connecting Kishtwar town. This ambitious project features a 2-lane highway with paved shoulders, complemented by 10 major new bridges (MNB), 6 minor new bridges (MJB), and 2 viaducts. The project is set to dramatically enhance travel efficiency, reducing the journey time from 60 minutes to just 15 minutes—a remarkable reduction of 45 minutes. The highway’s 10-meter-wide carriageway will ensure smoother and more reliable transit, significantly easing traffic congestion in Kishtwar's market area.

This major infrastructure project will alleviate traffic congestion in Kishtwar town, offering a more efficient bypass route that supports economic and social growth. The upgraded highway, equipped with extensive bridge and viaduct infrastructure, including 4 MJBs over the Chenab River with a maximum span of 390 meters and piers rising to 103 meters, stands as a testament to engineering excellence. By reducing travel time and vehicle operating costs, the project will not only improve transport connectivity but also boost tourism and regional development. The bypass will streamline access to Kishtwar town, enhancing the overall travel experience and contributing to the area's economic vitality.
